The method comprises followingsteps: obtaining traffic data x of a last period of time; using a unitary linear regression method to predict the number N01 of departure people in the previous period based on traffic data x; performing normalization processing on the traffic data x and using a BP neural network to predict the number N02 of departure people in the previous period of time; obtaining the real number N0 of the departure people in the previous period of time; determining whether using the unitary linear regression method or the BP neural network to predict the current number N1 of departure people according to N01, N02 and N0. The invention also provides a predicting system of the number of departure people at terminal buildings. According to the invention, different algorithms such as unitary linear regression method and the BP neural network are used for predicting the number of departure people at terminal buildings; according to the prediction result and the actual value, the algorithm with the smaller error of the actual value is automatically selected as the optimal algorithm for prediction, which greatly improves the accuracy of the prediction.
