Abstract

The invention discloses a virtual machine disk incremental snapshot production method based on a cloud platform. The method comprises the three parts of production of incremental snapshots, storage and management of the incremental snapshots and creation of a virtual machine by use of the snapshots, wherein in the production process of the incremental snapshots, the snapshots are uploaded not through a merging process of a base and a disk, and instead increments of the base are directly uploaded to a glance service; in the glance service, the snapshots of the virtual machine are stored and managed in a tree logic structure; and when it is selected to create the virtual machine from a certain snapshot, converting operation is executed on the incremental snapshot, and the whole incremental snapshot chain is traced backwards, and a complete snapshot file is obtained through merging. Through the method, every time a snapshot is produced for the virtual machine, the step of merging is not performed, and only the most recent incremental data is extracted to serve as the snapshot for uploading. In this way, time expenditure is saved at both the data merging stage and the data uploading stage, and snapshot production efficiency is improved; and the snapshots are stored in an incremental file form on the glance service, so that occupied space is greatly saved, and redundant data is reduced.
