Embodiment Construction

[0031] Experimental test runs were performed at laboratory scale using a one-stage setup of a Dynamic Cross Flow unit. The disc of the unit rotates at 1200 RPM. Through a membrane with 30nm pore size, the flow rate of FT wax is between 0.5kg / h and 4kg / h depending on the catalyst concentration in the retentate, producing 15kg / m 2 h to 116kg / m 2 • Flux range of h. The total membrane surface area is 0.034m 2 . The filtration temperature was 150°C and a pressure of 2 bar was applied to the filter vessel, resulting in a transmembrane pressure of 1.8 bar. The test FT wax stream contained 600 wt-ppm to 750 wt-ppm catalyst. The retentate is concentrated up to 20% by mass. The test was continued for 14 days with permeate recirculation keeping the retentate concentration constant at 20% by mass. During this test the throughput was kept constant at 15kg / m 2 h. Using RFA analysis, no solid particles or catalysts were detected in the permeate, maintaining 100% filtration efficienc...

Abstract

The invention provides a method, stage and plant for removing LTFT catalyst fines and / or organometallic catalyst compounds from of LTFT wax, downstream from the LTFT reactor. The method includes at least one stage having the steps of causing a differential pressure across a filter element; causing high mechanical shearing and / or centrifugal forces along and / or away from the surface of the filter on the high pressure side of the filter to cause the particles to be continuously removed from the filter surface; and wherein the differential pressure is selected to be sufficient to force flow of the wax across the filter to cause filtration.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a method of cleaning low temperature Fischer-Tropsch (LTFT) waxes. Background technique [0002] The inventors realized the presence of fine catalyst particles dispersed in the LTFT wax after the wax had been separated from the LTFT reactor. The mixture in the reactor typically includes a mixture of hydrocarbons (mainly long chain hydrocarbon waxes), gas and suspended solid catalyst particles. Catalyst is usually fed into the reactor in a specific size range, but due to attrition, the size range of the catalyst particle size inside the reactor changes from the original size to fines. The wax is usually separated from the reactor mixture, which includes the catalyst, by an internal filter. The required filtration rate is high, which requires that the pore size of the filter must be larger than some of the catalyst fines, which allows the catalyst fines to pass through the filter. Typical sizes range from micron to sub...
