Embodiment Construction

[0011] figure 1 Depicted is the drive end of generator 10, which may also be referred to as the front end. Generator 10 is similar to generators used in many aircraft. Generator 10 includes a housing 12 , a stator 14 , a shaft 16 , a rotor 18 and a bearing support assembly 20 . The rear end of the generator 10 is structurally similar to known generators and is therefore not shown. In addition, components of the generator 10 not discussed below are also similar to known generators and therefore will not be discussed below.

[0012] Housing 12 includes an outer cylindrical housing wall 30 having a front surface 32 in which a plurality of fastener openings 34 ( figure 1 Only one of them is visible) to attach the bearing support assembly 20 to the housing 12 using fasteners 36 . The stator 14 is mounted inside an outer cylindrical housing wall 30 and is fastened thereto. Shaft 16 , which may also be referred to as a rotor shaft, is disposed within housing 12 and extends from ...

Abstract

A bearing assembly for an electrical generator includes a frame, a bearing liner, a bearing and a non-metallic ring. The frame is configured to connect with a housing of the electrical generator. The bearing liner is connected with the frame. The bearing is received in the bearing liner. The non-metallic ring is interposed between the bearing liner and the bearing.

Description

Background technique [0001] The present disclosure relates to electrical generators, and more particularly to electrical generators having bearings for supporting a rotor shaft. [0002] In a generator, such as those used to power an aircraft's electrical systems, the generator is connected by a drive shaft to the aircraft's main engines. The drive shaft is connected to the rotor assembly of the generator through the rotor shaft. The rotor assembly is mounted on the rotor shaft and rotates within the stator assembly. The rotor shaft is supported for rotation in the generator housing using a bearing assembly. [0003] The drive end of the known generator comprises a main bearing which floats axially in a bushing bore of a bearing pad to accommodate differential thermal expansion and contraction. Floating main bearings for liner bores are typically 0.076 mm (0.0003 in) tight to 0.076 mm (0.0003 in) loose at room temperature. Since the bearing pads are made of aluminum and th...
