Abstract

The invention provides a subcritical traveling wave reactor, comprising: a GDT (gas dynamic trap) neutron source subsystem, an energy generation subsystem and an energy output subsystem. The GDT neutron source subsystem is used for allowing fusion reaction and generating high-energy neutrons based on the fusion reaction, and the high-energy neutrons drive the energy generation subsystem. The energy generation subsystem is connected with the GDT neutron source subsystem, drives the energy generation subsystem to carry out chain reaction and breeding in the subcritical state based on the high-energy neutrons, drives the energy generation subsystem to carry out combustion breeding based on the high-energy neutrons to generate energy, and transmits the energy to the energy output subsystem. The energy output subsystem is connected with the energy generation subsystem and is used for outputting the received energy. The subcritical traveling wave reactor is maintained to self-sustain breeding and combusting in the subcritical state by means of GDT neutron source parameter adjustment, so that resource utilization and reactor safety are increased at the premise of decreasing the demand onhigh burnup and high radiation necessary to the reactor.
