[0027] Certain terms are used in the following description for convenience only and not for limitation. The words "inwardly", "inwardly" and "outwardly", "outwardly" refer to directions towards and away from, respectively (the specific meaning will be apparent from the context of the description), the designated centerline or geometric center of the described element. Furthermore, as used herein, the words "connected" and "coupled" are each intended to include both a direct connection between two elements without any other elements intervening and between elements with one or more other elements interposed. indirect connection. The terminology includes the words specifically mentioned above, derivatives thereof and words of similar import.

[0028] Referring now to the drawings in detail, in which like numerals are used to represent like elements throughout, in Figure 1-Figure 19 An insulated bearing assembly 10 is shown in , which is used to rotatably couple the shaft 1 wi...

Abstract

An insulated bearing assembly for coupling a shaft with an outer member includes an inner race disposed upon the shaft and an outer race disposed about the inner race and having an outer circumferential surface and axial ends. An annular insulator is formed of an electrically insulative and thermally conductive material and is coupled with either the outer race or the inner race such that the insulator is generally disposed between the outer race and the outer member or between the inner race and the shaft. A polymeric member has an annular portion(s) disposed against one of the two axial endsof the coupled outer race or inner race and an axial portion(s) extending from the annular portion and coupled with the insulator member so as to retain the insulator member coupled with the outer race or the inner race when the bearing assembly is separated from the outer member.

Description

technical field [0001] This invention relates to bearings, and more particularly to bearings used in electrical equipment such as electric motors and generators. Background technique [0002] Bearing assemblies are well known and generally include: an inner ring, an outer ring, and rolling elements ( / rolling elements) between the inner ring and the outer ring, or (comprising) inner and outer members with relatively sliding surfaces. In either case, damage to (components of) the bearing may occur when current passes through the bearing. In order to prevent the flow of such currents, bearing rings have been provided with insulating coatings, or bearings have been provided with rolling elements formed of non-conductive materials such as ceramics. Contents of the invention [0003] In one aspect, the invention relates to an insulative bearing assembly for coupling a shaft to an outer member having an inner surface defining a bore. The bearing assembly includes: an inner ring...
