Embodiment Construction

[0049] In the following detailed description, numerous specific details are set forth in order to provide a better understanding of the present invention. It will be apparent, however, to one skilled in the art that the various embodiments disclosed may be practiced without some of these specific details. In other instances, well-known structures and techniques have been shown in detail to avoid unnecessarily obscuring the various embodiments.

[0050] Figures 1A to 1D Exemplary uses of nanoparticles are shown. Such as Figure 1A As shown, nanoparticles 10 can be used as carrier particles to transport deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) molecules 12 or as anchor points for DNA molecules 12 . Figure 1B An example is shown in which nanoparticles 10 are used to interact with electromagnetic radiation 14 due to their inherent mechanical or chemical properties. In some applications, nanoparticles 10 may be deployed in solution 18, such as Figure 1C shown, or on a solid substrate 20,...

Abstract

Methods for fabricating al least one nanoparticle include providing one or more substrates and depositing a substance on the one or more substrates. At least one portion of the substance is healed orannealed so the al least one portion beads up on the one or more substrates due to cohesive forces of the substance being greater than adhesive forces between the substrate and the substance. In somemethods, a pattern generation process is performed to define the at least one portion A combination of a substance material for the substance and a substrate material for the one or more substrates may also be selected so that the at least one portion beads up into a predetermined shape. The substance may also be deposited on the one or more substrates with a sub-monolayer thickness or with gaps to further reduce a nanoparticle size.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims priority to US Nonprovisional Patent Application No. 15 / 050,270, entitled "Nanoparticle Manufacturing," filed February 22, 2016, the disclosure of which is incorporated herein by reference. technical field [0003] This disclosure relates to nanofabrication. More specifically, the present disclosure relates to the manufacture of nanoparticles. Background technique [0004] Nanoparticles are commonly used in nanoengineering for various applications, such as serving as attachment points for other molecules, or interacting with electromagnetic radiation. Nanoparticles are generally defined as particles between 0.1 and 100 nanometers (nm) in size. [0005] Depending on the application, nanoparticles can be composed of various materials. Commonly used nanoparticle materials include metal and semiconductor particles such as quantum dots. Such particles usually have some spherical or crystalline sh...
