The free piston type linear generator comprises a cylinder, a stator and a rotor of a linear motor, wherein a cylinder cover on one side ofthe cylinder is provided with an air inlet valve and an exhaust valve, a piston capable of doing reciprocating motion is arranged in the air cylinder, an air chamber is formed between the piston andthe air inlet valve, and between the piston and the exhaust valve; a push rod fixedly connected with the piston is fixedly connected with the rotor of the linear motor on the other side of the air cylinder, and the rotor reciprocates in an electromagnetic field formed by a stator of the linear motor; the linear motor is connected with an electric energy storage unit, the electric energy storage unit is connected with a control unit, the linear motor works in cooperation with the piston of the internal combustion type air cylinder under the control of the control unit, and is continuously switched in two modes of the motor and the power generator; and when the air cylinder works outwards, the push rod of the piston pushes the stator to cut a magnetic field of the rotor to generate electricpotential to output electric energy outwards, when the piston completes a stroke, the linear motor is controlled by the control unit to be switched to an electromotor mode to drive the rotor to push the push rod, so that the piston enters the compression stroke, and the next working cycle is started.
