Abstract

The present application relates to a testing device (100) for torsion testing of a wind turbine blade (10). The test apparatus (100) comprises: a test stand (110) for rigidly supporting the root end of the wind turbine blade; a load frame (120) for mounting at a test location along the length of the wind turbine blade on said wind turbine blade; and at least one actuator (130) connected to a load frame for twisting said wind turbine blade about its longitudinal axis via said load frame. The load frame (120) includes: an outer frame (122) to which the at least one actuator (130) is connected; and an airfoil insert (124) held on the outer within the frame and define an airfoil aperture that substantially corresponds to the airfoil of the wind turbine blade at the test location such that in use the airfoil insert substantially encapsulates a substantial portion of the wind turbine blade over and in direct contact with the entire outer surface of the airfoil. A system and method for torsion testing of a wind turbine blade and a load frame for the testing device are also provided.
