Compared with the prior art, according to the fault diagnosis method and device of the embodiment, the actual soot content of the diesel particulate filter is indirectly determined according to the soot content of the engine oil in the engine, and further the fault diagnosis is conducted according to the actual soot content, thus solving the problem that in the prior art a carbon oxygen sensor is used for detecting a front-back pressure difference of the DPF, and further a fault diagnosis is conducted according to the front-back pressure difference, which leads to lower diagnosis precision.
