The invention relates to a soot and ash content load detection method which comprises the following steps: in response to a detection instruction, acquiring a pressure difference signal at two ends of a DPF (diesel particulate filter) under a fuel cut-off working condition of an engine, and extracting a first characteristic quantity for representing a pressure oscillation attenuation characteristic based on the acquired pressure difference signal; determining ash content load data in the DPF according to the first characteristic quantity; the average pressure difference data of the two ends of the DPF under the steady-state operation condition of the engine is obtained; and according to the ash content load data and the average pressure difference data, soot load data in the DPF are calculated. The ash content load data is independently calculated by using the first characteristic quantity which is extracted under the fuel cut-off working condition and is used for representing the pressure oscillation attenuation characteristic, and the soot load data is solved by combining the steady-state pressure difference data at the two ends of the DPF, so that the detection precision of the two substances is fundamentally improved; meanwhile, the method can distinguish and quantify the mass of soot and ash content in real time during normal operation of the vehicle, and provides an accurate basis for intelligent control.
