Embodiment Construction

[0055] Puncture into a patient's circulatory system may require the use of a needle, catheter, or other device for creating a puncture to pierce the patient's skin. Procedures that may require puncture into the circulatory system may include dialysis, hemofiltration, hemofiltration, blood donation, blood detoxification, blood component replacement, cardiac catheterization, other blood processing procedures. During dialysis treatment using a dialysis machine, the needle may place the circulatory system in fluid communication with the extracorporeal system. Blood circulates through the extracorporeal system and undergoes filtration within the extracorporeal system.

[0056] In some cases, blood from the patient can leak through the puncture site onto the patient's skin. For example, during treatment, the needle may be displaced from the puncture site due to patient movement or inadvertent contact with the needle, which may result in patient blood loss.

Abstract

A medical wetness sensing device includes a base adapted to be disposed on a wearer of the medical wetness sensing device. The base includes a first electrical conductor and a second electrical conductor electrically insulated from the first electrical conductor. The first electrical conductor includes a hinge that enables a first portion of the first electrical conductor to deflect at the hinge relative to a second portion of the first electrical conductor. The medical wetness sensing device includes a controller electrically connected to the first electrical conductor and the second electrical conductor. The controller is configured to detect the presence or absence of medical fluid electrically connecting the first electrical conductor and the second electrical conductor.

Description

[0001] This application claims priority to US Patent Application No. 15 / 479,777, filed April 5, 2017, which is incorporated herein by reference. technical field [0002] The present application relates to systems and devices for sensing wetness, and in particular, to systems and devices for sensing wetness during dialysis treatments. Background technique [0003] During a dialysis treatment, arterial and venipuncture needles are typically inserted into a patient so that blood can be withdrawn from the patient through the arterial needle, flow through a dialyzer to filter the blood, and then returned to the patient through the venipuncture needle. In some cases, the venipuncture needle may begin to dislodge. In the event that such an event is ignored, the arterial needle may continue to withdraw blood from the patient, while the displaced venipuncture needle cannot return blood to the patient. SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION [0004] In one aspect, a medical wetness sensing devic...
