Embodiment 1

[0128] Example 1: Crosslinked Aminosilicone - Emulsion A

[0129] Into a 1 L flask, weigh 300 g of a trimethyl-siloxy terminated pendant aminosiloxane polymer having 6.9 moles of NH per 100 DP and an average unit formula: (Me 3 SiO 1 / 2 ) 2 (Me 2 SiO 2 / 2 ) 392 (MeR4SiO 2 / 2 ) 9 , where each Me represents a methyl group, and R4 is an amino function of the formula: where D12 is an isobutyl group and D13 is an ethylene group; 40 g of Genapol UD 050 and 90 g of Genapol UD 110 are then weighed. The flask was equipped with a Teflon stirring paddle, a condenser and a temperature probe. The mixture was heated to 70°C with mixing at 200 rpm. Add 145 g of water and 2 g of acetic acid and keep heating to 70°C. After that, 6 g of glycidol was added and mixed at 400 rpm for 2 hours. Then 4.6 g of epoxytrimethoxysilane was added and mixed at 70°C for 1 / 2 hour at 400 rpm. The remaining water was added to obtain a total of 1000 g of emulsion. The resulting emulsion was an aqueou...

Embodiment 2

[0130] Example 2: Crosslinked Aminosilicone - Emulsion B

[0131] Into a 1 L flask, weigh 300 g of the pendant aminosiloxane polymer (6.9 moles of NH per 100 DP) followed by 40 g of Genapol UD 050 and 90 g of Genapol UD 110. The flask was equipped with a Teflon stirring paddle, a condenser and a temperature probe. The mixture was heated to 70°C with mixing at 200 rpm. Add 145 g of water and 2 g of acetic acid and keep heating to 70°C. 6 g of glycidol was added and mixed for 2 hours at 400 rpm. Then 6.9 g of epoxytrimethoxysilane was added and mixed for 1 / 2 hour at 70°C at 400 rpm. The remaining water was added to obtain a total of 1000 g of emulsion. The resulting emulsion was an aqueous emulsion of aminopolymer siloxane with 30% actives. The particle size of the emulsion is 20 nanometers to 50 nanometers at the median diameter measured in volume mode. The emulsion was dried at room temperature to obtain a dry film, and the rheological curve of the dry film was measure...

Embodiment 3

[0134] Example 3: Use of Emulsion A of Example 1 in a Leave-In Conditioner

[0135]Curl control studies were conducted using Emulsion A prepared as described in Example 1 above and diluted to 2% active. This diluted emulsion was used as a leave-in conditioner and tested for frizz control as follows. All frizz control tests used a curly A-type tress weighing 4 g and having a length of 20 cm. After washing with 9% sodium lauryl sulfate solution, untreated tresses and tresses treated with 0.4 g of diluted Emulsion A were air-dried overnight at 50% relative humidity and 23°C. The tresses were then placed in a humidity chamber at 80% relative humidity and 25°C for 3 hours. The results show good frizz control and hair fiber orientation for tresses treated with diluted Emulsion A compared to untreated tresses after these high humidity conditions. Hair tresses treated with diluted Lotion A also had a smooth feel and increased shine compared to untreated tresses.

Abstract

A Crosslinked Aminosilicone Polymer is useful in personal care applications, particularly hair care or textile treatment. A process for making the Crosslinked Aminosilicone Polymer is also described.

Description

[0001] Cross-references to related patent applications [0002] This application claims the benefit of US Provisional Patent Application No. 62 / 588538, filed on November 20, 2017, pursuant to 35 USC Section 119(e). US Provisional Patent Application No. 62 / 588538 is hereby incorporated by reference. technical field [0003] A crosslinked aminosilicone polymer, methods of making the polymer, and use of the polymer for treating hair, textiles, other fibers, and other substrates are disclosed. Background technique [0004] Silicones have been widely used in the treatment of hair, textiles and other fibers. In particular, various amine functional silicones have been developed and sold commercially under various trade names. A common problem associated with amine functional silicones as textile treatments is that they yellow the textiles due to oxidation of the amine groups and extensive hydrophobicity of the polydimethylsiloxane chains. Consequently, efforts over the years hav...
