Embodiment

[0072]Presented below are non-limiting examples illustrating selection of filter material weight, plasticizer weight percent, and filament linear density and filter segment wrapper properties resulting in enhanced filter stiffness. Nineteen filters were made with cellulose acetate tow (Y-shaped fibers) with different filament linear densities and different amounts of plasticizer (triacetin). The resulting filter material is packaged in filter segment packs having different weight basis and thickness. The resulting filter had a diameter of 7.71 mm and a length of 126 mm. The materials used in the manufacture of some of the nineteen filters are presented in Table 1 below.

Abstract

An aerosol-generating article (10) includes an aerosol forming substrate (20) and a filter (30) downstream of the substrate. The aerosol-generating article has an average radial hardness of 95.5% or greater when measured around the filter. The filter has a resistance to draw of 70 mmWG or less.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to aerosol-generating articles and filters for aerosol-generating articles having enhanced hardness. Background technique [0002] Aerosol-generating articles include articles that can be combusted to generate an aerosol, or heated instead of combusted to generate an aerosol, and that can aerosolize a substrate or composition in any other suitable manner, such as by chemical reaction or by entraining particles in the air products. Regardless of the mechanism of aerosol formation, the aerosol-generating article may include a filter downstream of the aerosol-forming substrate to filter one or more components of the aerosol. [0003] For example, aerosol-generating articles such as cigarettes typically have comminuted tobacco, usually in the form of cut filler, surrounded by a paper wrapper that forms a tobacco rod. A smoker uses a cigarette by lighting one end of the cigarette and causing the tobacco rod to burn. The smok...
