Embodiment Construction

[0010] As required, detailed embodiments of the invention are disclosed herein; however, it is to be understood that the disclosed embodiments are merely examples of the invention which may be embodied in different and alternative forms. The figures are not necessarily to scale; some features may be exaggerated or minimized to show details of particular components. Therefore, specific structural and functional details disclosed herein are not to be interpreted as limiting, but merely as a representative basis for teaching one skilled in the art to variously employ the present invention.

[0011] Tracking a battery's state of charge (SOC) is critical for its efficient operation, especially in autonomous vehicles (AVs), for several reasons. The SOC can determine how the battery is used, including the SOC operating container, power limits, available energy, and more. In current systems, the SOC is estimated primarily by integrating Ampere-hours (Ah). SOC can also be estimated i...

Abstract

The invention provides an intelligent SOC reset system for an autonomous vehicle. A state-of-charge system for an autonomous vehicle may include a battery having an associated contactor to selectivelyconnect the battery to a load, and a processor coupled to the associated contactor and configured to control the contactor to disconnect the battery from the load to obtain an open-circuit-voltage (OCV) measurement in response to detecting no occupants inside the vehicle after duration of an interval from a previous OCV measurement exceeds an associated threshold.

Description

technical field [0001] Aspects of the present disclosure relate generally to state-of-charge reset systems for autonomous vehicles. Background technique [0002] Electric vehicles often rely on accurate state-of-charge (SOC) measurements to make many determinations. The SOC can be used to determine how the battery is being used, available energy, etc. However, an unreliable SOC can lead to inaccurate usage of the battery, as well as a shortened battery life expectancy. Contents of the invention [0003] A state of charge system for an autonomous vehicle may include a battery having associated contactors to selectively connect the battery to a load; and a processor coupled to the associated contactors and configured to control the contactor to disconnect the battery from the load in response to detecting the absence of an occupant in the vehicle after an interval duration since a last open circuit voltage (OCV) measurement exceeds an associated threshold connected to obt...
