Embodiment Construction

[0064] The present disclosure relates to an intraocular lens (IOL) whose position can be adjusted in situ. The present disclosure further relates to a method of adjusting the position of such an IOL and a system for adjusting the position of the IOL. In particular, an IOL of the present disclosure may comprise at least one haptic at least a portion of which is formed from a photoresponsive shape memory polymer network, such as a polydomain azo liquid crystal polymer network (PD-LCN). In response to a specific wavelength of laser radiation with a specific polarization, the PD-LCN will bend predictably in a given direction, allowing adjustment of the IOL position within the eye. Furthermore, the PD-LCN will maintain its shape, allowing the adjusted IOL position to be preserved. Further, PD-LCN bending and IOL position adjustment are reversible in response to different polarizations of laser radiation.

[0065] The IOLs of the present disclosure can be single-piece or modular I...

Abstract

The present disclosure provides an intralocular-lens (IOL) or ophthalmic device including an optic and at least one haptic, at least a portion of which is formed from a photoresponsive shape memory polymer network, such as a polydomain azo liquid crystalline polymer network (PD-LCN). The present disclosure further provides systems and methods for adjusting the position of such an IOL or other ophthalmic device using polarized laser radiation.

Description

[0001] priority statement [0002] This application claims the serial number of U.S. Provisional Patent Applications filed on April 9, 2019 and entitled "IN-SITU ADJUSTABLE INTRAOCULAR LENS [IN-SITU ADJUSTABLE INTRAOCULAR LENS]" as inventors Xuwei Jiang, Ali Akinay, Jingbo Liu, and Jan Liu Priority No. 62 / 831,520, the entire contents of which are hereby incorporated by reference as if fully and completely set forth herein. technical field [0003] The present disclosure relates to an intraocular lens (IOL) whose position can be adjusted in situ in the capsular bag of the eye. The present disclosure further relates to a method of adjusting the position of such an IOL and a system for adjusting the position of the IOL. Background technique [0004] The human eye consists of a cornea and a lens designed to focus light entering the pupil of the eye onto the retina. However, the eye can exhibit various refractive errors that cause light to not focus properly on the retina, and ...
