Methods, devices, and processor-readable media for adjusting control display gain of a gesture-controlled device are described. Adjusting the control display gain may facilitate user interaction with content or UI elements presented on a display screen of the gesture-controlled device. The control display gain may be adjusted according to an attribute of a manner in which a user's hand performs a drag-over-the-air gesture. The attribute may be a location of the gesture, a direction of the hand performing the gesture, or a speed of the gesture. A hand that becomes stationary over a threshold period of time while performing the drag gesture may adjust the control display gain to different levels. The control display gain may be set to different values according to a current speed of the hand performing the gesture. The control display gain level may be selected from a continuous range of values or a set of discrete values. An apparatus for performing the method is described.
