Embodiment Construction

[0023] Most candy bars are wrapped with a wrapper film and the desired package artwork, logos, ingredients, etc. are printed on the film. The above packaging is generally realized by the following methods. Continuous packaging film is printed with artwork and the like (usually done by the film supplier and not by the food packager). During the actual packaging process, the product will be placed in the film in an appropriate position so that the individual product is aligned with the artwork on the packaging film. The film surrounds the product 12 and is glued at a continuous seam 14 to form a tubular shape 16 (see figure 2 ). The tube 16 is then cut into sections at appropriate locations to form individual film tubes, within which typically a product is contained. The ends of these tubes are then glued together by heat or cold gluing to form the familiar packaged product 20 (see figure 1 ). Typically, cutting and gluing are performed simultaneously, by what is known as ...

Abstract

A method for packaging a food product (30), such as a candy (12), wherein a film is formed into a substantially tubular envelope (16) around the product, which envelope extends beyond the product (12) at both ends (34), wherein closing means (119) squeeze the envelope (16) together in substantially radially inward direction at some distance from the ends (34) of the envelope (160) so as to give the packaging of the product the appearance of a twist-wrap.

The term "confectionary" is also to be understood as "one or more pieces of sugar", since there may be more than one piece of sugar in one package. Still another food product, sausage, can be packaged by the method of the present invention. The term "tubular" should not only be interpreted as "cylindrical". In the present invention, sleeves with square, rectangular or other shapes in section are also referred to as "tubular". Generally, the shape of the sleeve is determined by...
