Embodiment Construction

[0050] Various aspects and embodiments of the present invention will be described in relation to a disposable absorbent article, and more specifically, a disposable diaper, by way of illustration only, without limitation. However, it is obvious that the invention can also be used to produce other products or garments, for example feminine care products, various incontinence garments, medical garments and any other disposable garments. Typically, disposable garments are intended for limited use and are not intended to be washed or otherwise cleaned for reuse. Disposable diapers, for example, are economically discarded after being soiled by the wearer.

[0051] figure 1 is a representative plan view of an absorbent article, such as a disposable diaper 20, shown in an unfolded or flattened state. Portions of the structure have been partially cut away to more clearly illustrate the diaper structure of the diaper 20 . The surface of the diaper 20 that contacts the wearer faces t...

Abstract

An elastic blend is made from at least two incompatible polymers and a compatibilizer selected to improve miscibility of the incompatible polymers. For example, a blend of olefinic plastomers and elastomeric styrenic block copolymers, and a compatibilizer having components of the olefinic plastomer and sytrenic block copolymer elastomer yields an inexpensive elastic blend material with adequate elastic properties for use in personal care products.

Description

Background technique [0001] Personal care products, including diapers and sanitary pads, often consist of a topsheet (also known as a coversheet or liner), an absorbent core as the primary liquid-holding layer, and a liquid-impermeable backsheet or outer layer. Some of these components may also have a cushioning layer for fluid intake and distribution, or other specialized layers between the topsheet and the absorbent core, and additional liners within the product, or containment side panels. Fluid absorption and retention, comfort and leak resistance are required features of such products. Accordingly, such garments often include elasticized portions to create a pad-like fit around certain openings, for example, waist and leg openings. [0002] Laminates made of conventional elastic filaments and elastic fixing adhesives are often used to construct such elasticized portions. However, such laminates may feel harsh or otherwise uncomfortable. For example, such laminates may ...
