Problems solved by technology

The described system transfer function is spatially distinct, and the relationship between the width of the transfer function and the distance used to separate the sampling points is not constant during acquisition, which leads to the need to consider the optics of the system, and thus resulting in very complex resolutions

Embodiment Construction

[0060] figure 1 Shown is an ordered bundle of flexible optical fibers (in particular tens of thousands) forming an image guide 1, at its proximal end a light source 2 and a fiber injection system capable of illuminating the fibers one by one, and at its distal end an optical head 3 The light beam leaving the illuminated optical fiber can be focused on a point located at a given depth of the object 4 under observation. The injection system comprises a plurality of optical elements 5 placed before a fiber scanning system 6, such as deflection units, which are able to scan the fibers one by one at a very high speed. Each fiber optic is used in turn to deliver an illumination beam and a corresponding return beam originating from the object being observed. Spatial resolution is obtained by focusing the laser beam to a point and by virtue of the confocal properties that reside in the spatial filtering of the observed object by those fibers that are also used for illumination. This...

Abstract

The method involves performing a set of acquisitions across an image guide (1). Each acquisition is performed for a given spatial offset at a distal end of the guide with respect to an optical head. Each acquired data is transformed in a scatter diagram and each diagram is readjusted with respect to a reference scatter diagram. A final image is reconstructed by superimposing readjusted diagram. Independent claims are also included for the following: (A) a device for enhancing resolution of confocal image acquired across an image guide (B) a system implementing confocal image resolution enhancing method.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a method and system for super-resolution of confocal images obtained via an image guide and a device for implementing such a method. [0002] The invention is particularly applicable in the field of medical imaging. However, the invention should be broader in scope since it can be applied in any field where imaging is performed by means of a guide comprising a plurality of optical fibers, such as in viewing the interior of manufactured devices. Background technique [0003] The image director is capable of obtaining images. This device moves the laser scanner, light source and receiver a certain distance away from the object to be observed. For example, in a laser scanning system used to acquire confocal images, the image guide is a collection of thousands of optical fibers whose spatial layout is the same for entry and exit. [0004] The distal end, ie the end close to the object to be observed (and therefore at a d...
