Problems solved by technology

It is very difficult to construct a high throughput data transfer interface using existing technology and may require as many as 90 conductors or more to achieve the required throughput on (for example) a wireless telephone
Current solutions often involve utilizing parallel-type interfaces with relatively high signal levels, which can result in a more expensive, less reliable connection and can generate emissions that can interfere with device functionality

[0544] The 1-byte Manufacturing Week field contains a value defining the week of manufacture of the display. In at least one embodiment, this value ranges from 1 to 53 if supported by the client. If the client does not support this field, it is usually set to 0. The Year of Manufacture field of 1 byte contains a value defining the year of manufacture of the client (display). This value is an offset from 1990, although other base years may be used. This field can express a year in the range of 1991 to 2245. Example: 2003 corresponds to the year of manufacture value 13. If the client does not support this field, it shall be set to the value 0.

[0545] The Length of Manufacturer Name, Length of Product Name, and Length of Serial Number fields each contain a 2-byte value that specifies the length of the Manufacturer Name String field including any invalid terminating and invalid padding characters, respectively; including any invalid The length of the Product Name String fiel...

Abstract

A data interface for transferring digital data between a host and a client over a communication path using packet structures linked together to form a communication protocol for communicating a pre-selected set of digital control and presentation data. The signal protocol is used by link controllers configured to generate, transmit, and receive packets forming the communications protocol, and to form digital data into one or more types of data packets, with at least one residing in the host device and being coupled to the client through the communications path. The interface provides a cost-effective, low power, bi-directional, high-speed data transfer mechanism over a short-range 'serial' type data link, which lends itself to implementation with miniature connectors and thin flexible cables which are especially useful in connecting display elements such as wearable micro-displays to portable computers and wireless communication devices.
