[0019]The following description discloses a TRPMS apparatus and method for stimulating or otherwise bioelectromagnetically affecting a biological, cellular or biochemical function or structure in a targeted cortical or subcortical brain regions using a plurality of magnetic assemblies mounted on the skull of a patient. The term “bioelectromagnetically” as used herein means pertaining to the interaction between an external magnetic field and biological tissues, structures and functions. The magnetic assemblies employ rotating permanent magnets to generate time-varying magnetic fields that induce electric currents at a targeted location in the brain of the patient. TRPMS has the advantage that the spatial spread of the magnetic field and induced current is more limited in comparison to related methods such as TMS, which employs electromagnetic coils.
