System for and method of securing articles along a supply chain

A system and method for securing articles of commerce passing through points along a supply chain against theft, diversion, product overruns, counterfeiting and like unauthorized activity, capture authentication information and identification information associated with the articles with an interrogation device at one or more points in the supply chain. The articles may be authenticated from the captured authentication information as being authorized or unauthorized at each point, and may be identified from the captured identification information at each point. Transactional information about the article, e.g., authorized / unauthorized status and a time and place of the authentication, is reported to a brand manager / law enforcement.

Thumb/Fingerprint Activated Pill Dispenser

A pill container / dispenser that includes fingerprint recognition circuitry located in a cap associated therewith. The cap is locked on the container and no pill can be dispensed from the container without first moving the cap. When a person places their thumb on the cap of the pill dispenser, a computer chip reads the thumbprint. If the person is an authorized user, the cap will be unlocked from the container and released so a pill can be dispensed from the container. If the fingerprint is not recognized, the cap will remain locked in position so that no dispensing will occur. Furthermore, if the computer chip recognizes tampering, such as a continued effort to remove the cap by a non-authorized user, a chemical spray is sprayed from the cap into the container. The spray will dilute or destroy the potency of the pills remaining in the container.

Electronic tampering detection system

An electronic tampering detection system is applied to a blank which can be formed into a package through the use of closure tabs which are coated with an electrically conductive adhesive. An electronic chip or CPU is applied to the blank and electrically conductive traces are printed or otherwise formed on the blank to connect the CPU to a first pair of the closure tabs to form an electric circuit. Other traces on the blank connect the first pair of closure tabs to the other closure tabs to form an enlarged circuit. The CPU has procedure memory, data memory, a power source, a clock and communication means associated therewith. If a package is opened accidentally or intentionally before it should be opened by way of the closure tabs the electric circuit is broken and a time stamp from the CPU clock is stored in the data memory for later retrieval. The circuit can be formed as resistances in parallel and an analog to digital converter can be used to provide an appropriate signal to the CPU. The electric circuit can cover a large portion of the blank's surface to provide a signal in the event of unauthorized penetration of the formed package.

Mechanical tamper-evident high security seal and method of use to secure a cargo container

A mechanical tamper evident security seal for sealing a cargo container door includes a metallic pin having a head at an upper end and circumferential indents at a second end. An upper banner includes a portion non-removably encasing the head of the metallic pin. The banner includes first identifying indicia unique to a particular one of a plurality of like mechanical seals. A lock receptacle receives the second end of the metallic pin therein and includes a lock housing retaining at least two locks therein. A first of the locks engaging a first of the circumferential indents and a second of the locks simultaneously engages a second of the circumferential indents. Any attempt to withdraw the metallic pin results in visually identifiable destruction of the seal. A lower banner extending from the lock receptacle includes second unalterable identifying indicia identical to the first identifying indicia. The seal is one element of a security seal tamper-evidencing kit providing a multi-layered approach to securing a cargo container.
