Embodiment Construction

[0037] The Coriolis meter provides a measurement of the mass flow and / or density of fluid flow 12 through conduit 14 . As previously described in detail, Coriolis meters provide erroneous mass flow and density measurements in the presence of entrained gas (eg, bubbly gas) within the fluid stream. The present invention provides means for compensating a Coriolis meter to provide corrected or improved density and / or mass flow measurements.

[0038] Such as figure 1As shown, one embodiment of a flow measurement system 10 embodying the present invention includes a Coriolis meter 16, a speed of sound (SOS) measurement instrument 18, and a processing unit 20 for providing any one or more of the following fluid flow parameters, Namely: gas volume fraction, velocity of sound through fluid flow, uncompensated density, compensated density, and composition. The fluid flow may be any aerated fluid or mixture, including liquids, slurries, solid / liquid mixtures, liquid / liquid mixtures, and...

Abstract

A flow measurement system is provided for providing at least one of compensated mass flow rate measurement and compensated density measurement. The flow measurement system includes a gas volume fraction (GVF) meter combined with a Coriolis meter. The GVF meter measures the sound pressure propagating through the fluid to measure the speed of sound α propagating through the fluid mix , calculating at least the gas volume fraction and / or reduced natural frequency of the fluid. In order to determine the improved density for the Coriolis meter, the calculated gas volume fraction and / or the reduced frequency are provided to the processing unit. Determine the modified density by using an analytically or empirically derived density calibration model (or a formula derived therefrom), which is the measured natural frequency and at least one of the determined GVF, reduced frequency, and sound velocity or function of any combination of them. A gas volume fraction (GVF) meter may include a sensing device having a plurality of strain-based or pressure sensors spaced axially along the pipe for measuring acoustic pressure propagating through the flow.
