Abstract

The invention relates to a powered hammer provided with a hammer mechanism having a ram and a piston. In this powered hammer, the ram is fitted to a guide tube section, and has an outer circumferential surface in which a vent channel is provided. The vent channel connects the front end of the outer circumferential surface with its rear end, and the vent channel is interrupted by a radially outwardly projecting sealing portion. The piston is reciprocatingly drivable by a motor of the powered hammer, and the ram causes an impact on a tool bit inserted into a tool holder by movement of the ram toward the tool bit. After causing the impact, a space between the ram and a surface of the piston facing the ram is temporarily connected to ambient air through the vent channel and races formed in a wall surface of the guide tube section.
