Abstract

The invention discloses a polarization insensitive array waveguide grating, which comprises an input waveguide, an input planar waveguide, two groups of array waveguides with independent parameters, an output planar waveguide and an output waveguide, wherein the input planar waveguide includes a polarization beam splitter; the output planar waveguide includes a polarization beam combiner; one ends of the first group and the second group of array waveguides are respectively connected with the input waveguide through the input planar waveguide; and the other ends of the first group and the second group of array waveguides are respectively connected with the output waveguide through the output planar waveguide. By adopting the two groups of array waveguides with independent parameters, the invention can independently select the parameters of the array waveguide respectively for transverse electric mode and transverse magnetic mode, thus simultaneously eliminating the channel spacing and the polarization dependence of a center channel wavelength. The invention overcomes the limitation of conventional polarization compensation technique that fails to eliminate polarization sensitivity of the channel spacing. The invention has the advantages of simple structure and convenient design, and only needs the standard process for fabricating the array waveguide grating without introducing any extra complex process.
