Embodiment Construction

[0016] attached figure 1 is a diagram depicting a system 100 for purifying fluid according to one embodiment of the present invention. Two perforated plates 104 are accommodated in the chamber 102 . The perforated plates 104 have UV light emitters mounted on their surfaces. In one embodiment of the invention, the perforated plate 104 can be adapted to fit any other vessel. For example, the perforated plate 104 can be adapted to fit a cylindrical tube carrying water. Chamber 102 has an inlet 106 and an outlet 108 . Fluid enters chamber 102 through inlet 106 and passes through perforations in perforated plate 104 . The fluid may be air, water or any other fluid or gas. The UV light emitters may be UV light emitting diodes (LEDs), such as UVTOP LEDs, manufactured by Sensor Electronic Technology Inc.

[0017] Microorganisms present in the fluid, when passing through the perforations in the multiwell plate 104, are exposed to UV light emitted by the UV light emitter. UV ligh...

Abstract

A system for purifying a fluid uses ultra violet (UV) light to inactivate micro-organisms present in the fluid. The system has an arrangement of UV light emitters on perforated plates. The fluid, while passing through perforations in the perforated plates, is exposed to the UV light emitted by the UV light emitters. Micro-organisms present in the fluid pass very close to the UV light emitters. The UV light absorbed by the micro-organisms causes genetic damage and inactivation. The system has feedback units providing feedback about the physical properties of the fluid to a power unit supplyingpower to the UV light emitters. The power unit varies the amount of power supplied to the UV light emitters, based on the feedback.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a system for fluid purification using ultraviolet (UV) light, and more particularly, to a system for fluid purification using UV light emitters mounted on a perforated plate. Background technique [0002] Some fluids used in everyday life, such as water and air, can be contaminated with microorganisms. The presence of microorganisms in fluids, for example in drinking water, may have deleterious effects on the health of users. Therefore, microorganisms present in the fluid should be inactivated before the fluid is used for consumption. [0003] One method of purifying fluids is through the use of ultraviolet (UV) light emitted by UV light emitters. UV light, between 260 and 280nm, is absorbed by DNA, RNA and proteins within microorganisms such as bacteria and viruses, causing genetic damage and inactivation. [0004] Systems already exist for purifying fluids with UV light. However, known systems for purifying fluids...
