Abstract
A method for reducing friction coefficients and wear between lubricated surfaces. The method includes providing an amount of an oil-soluble or oil-dispersible component selected from the group consisting of a photo-crosslinkable poly(2-cinnamoyloxyalkyl acrylate) core and a diblock acrylate copolymer corona in a fully formulated lubricant composition containing a base oil of lubricating viscosity. The lubricant composition containing the component is applied to a surface to be lubricated.
Description
technical field Embodiments described herein relate to methods of friction modification and wear reduction using fully formulated lubricants containing diblock monopolymers. In particular, oil soluble components can be used in lubricant formulations to lower their coefficient of friction and act as wear reducing agents. Background technique Lubricants can be liquid, paste or solid, with liquid lubricants being the most common. Lubricants are used in automotive engines, transmissions, bearings, gears, industrial gears and other machinery to reduce friction and wear and improve fuel economy. Various components including, but not limited to, dispersants, detergents, friction modifiers, antiwear agents, antioxidants, and anticorrosion additives are typically present in fully formulated lubricating oils. For many lubricant applications, a viscosity index improver may also be included as a major component. With the enactment of energy scarcity and stricter environmental regula...
