[0017] figure 1 A rail vehicle 2 traveling under a trolley line 1 is shown. The rail vehicle 2 has an electric drive system with an electric motor, however the electric motor is figure 1 is not visible in . The electrical connection between the rail vehicle 2 and the trolley wire 1 is realized via a pantograph 3 . The energy flow that occurs when the rail vehicle 2 is driven is indicated by the upper arrow 4 . Electric power is obtained from trolley wires 1 which are part of the power supply network and is converted into kinetic energy by means of an electric machine of the rail vehicle 2 . During electric braking, the electric motor of the tram 2 works as a generator, so that the rotation of the axle produces electrical energy under braking, which is fed back into the trolley wire 1 in direction 5 and thus into the power supply network . If the braking deceleration produced in this way is not sufficient, then a mechanical friction brake comes into play, by means of which...

Abstract

The invention relates to a method for breaking a rail vehicle (2) comprising an electrodynamic brake and a friction brake (9,10,11,12), that is economical and safe to use without sacrificing the braking resistance. According to the invention, the degree of energy recovery potential of brake energy, that the electrodynamic brakes (7) produce when braking, is determined in the current supply network (1) and a control unit (14) is provided. The control unit (14) adapts the speed of the rail vehicle (2) to the degree of energy recovery potential such that the friction brake (9,10,11,12) is prevented from being damaged during braking.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a method for braking a rail vehicle. Background technique [0002] Rail vehicles with various braking systems are known. For example, DE 10135797 C2 describes a rail vehicle with electric and mechanical friction brakes. During each braking operation the kinetic energy of the rail vehicle must be absorbed by the existing braking system. In electromotive braking systems, this is achieved either by feeding back kinetic energy into a feedable supply network, or by means of so-called braking resistors, in which the kinetic energy is first converted into electrical energy by the drive system acting as a generator. The electrical energy is then fed to the braking resistor, which converts it into heat. [0003] In regenerative electric braking, the efficiency of braking is related to the degree of regenerative capability of the power supply network. Feedback capacity is determined by the absorptive capacity and availability of the ...
