Embodiment 1

[0185] Embodiment 1 color contrast

[0186] Stain sachets of 20, 40 and 60ml were sequentially added to the paint and stirred in to obtain the specific colour. After adding the sachets, paint on the card and judge if it is the desired color or if you want to get the next shade darker on the card. If desired, add 40ml for a medium shade of color, repeat on card. Repeat the process with the 60ml sachet for the darkest shade. For color development, color is stirred in, brushed onto Seneta cards, dried and measured spectrophotometrically and visually against known color standards.

[0187] Sachet filling method:

[0188] After the color is determined, the stain is weighed, placed in a paper cup, and a size of PVA film is cut based on the volume of the stain and sealed using a "Clamco Model 250" Thermal Sealer Mfg manufactured by Clamco: 12900 Plaza Dr. Cleveland, Oh. three sides. The stain is then poured into the pouch through a funnel attached to the ring rack. The fourth s...

Embodiment 2

[0201] Embodiment 2 Color Engineering (Color Works)

[0202]Select a known color from an existing swatch and formulate that color by blending pigments together. The pigment is bagged within a polymer film according to a predetermined dosage. Then, toss the pouch into the 1 gallon of paint and stir in to get the desired color.

[0203] Composition of the sachet:

[0204] PVA film - 6ml or depending on the above dye dosage

[0205] Pigment Green 7- 2.5%

[0206] Pigment Yellow 74- 2%

[0207] Carbon Black - 1%

[0208] Dispersant - 10%

[0209] (coconut oil monoethanolamide surfactant /

[0210] Phosphorylated ethoxylated fatty alcohol / phospholipid surfactant)

[0211] Clay Extender - 84.5%

Abstract

Encapsulated colorants for waterborne coating compositions are provided as a system and kit with a method for tinting the water borne coating compositions. The encapsulated colorant comprises at leastone water dispersible tinting material to be released into the based coating composition upon dissolution of the encapsulating layer to give the coating composition color. The encapsulating layer surrounding the colorant has at least one polymer that is soluble in aqueous medium surrounding the tinting material wherein the layer has a thickness from about 0.5 to about 5 mils and can dissolve to release the dispersible tinting material in an aqueous coating composition having about 25 to about 45 volume percent solids and about 55 to about 75 volume percent water in less than 15 minutes with agitation at a temperature in the range of about 50 to about 110 DEG F. One or more of the encapsulated colorants as a pouch or pouches are contained in a moisture resistant package until ready for dissolution in the coating composition. A plurality of the encapsulating colorants as pouches in moisture resistant packaging comprise a system which along with one or more clear or tint base water borne coating compositions comprise a kit. A method involves placing one or more pouches in a volume of coating composition with stirring or shaking to provide a color to the composition.
