The method comprises the following steps: two or more different work modes of the wireless local area network access device are preset, and different work modes have different working performances and different power consumptions and are respectively applicable to different network states; and when a hardware button state is changed or a network state is changed, and if the switching condition of the work mode is satisfied, the work mode is switched to another work mode. The device comprises a preset module and a switching module, wherein the preset module is used for presetting the work modes of the access device, and the switching module is used for switching the work modes of the access device. On the premise that the network transmission requirements and the user requirements are satisfied, the access device stays at an energy-saving working state so as to integrally reduce the energy consumption of the access device.
