Problems solved by technology

This results in increased stress on the radiation source, leading to an increased likelihood of damage to the radiation source
[0024] Third, the use of a large number of radiation sources in arrangement (ii) creates vortex effects (these effects are explored in more detail below), causing forced oscillations of the radiation source - this forced oscillation increases the radiation source and / or the possibility of breakage of the protective sleeve (if any)
Previous studies have shown that the aforementioned "open channel" fluid handling systems are limited to a small range of lamp powers
In addition, the use of these lamps in a cross-flow arrangement leads to the above-mentioned pressure differentials and the consequent increased likelihood of lamp breakage

Embodiment Construction

[0049] The inventors have discovered that the use of a non-circular sleeve or lamp outer surface reduces the stress on these elements in a fluid treatment system. In the fluid treatment system, the radiation source assembly is cross-sectional (for example perpendicular) to the fluid flow. The direction of the fluid processing area through the system.

[0050] Therefore, one aspect of the present invention relates to a radiation source assembly including an elongate radiation emitting outer portion having a non-circular cross section and an elongate radiation source.

[0051] In one embodiment, the elongated radiation emitting external and elongated radiation source are integral (for example, in International Publication No. WO2007 / 071042 [Fraser et al], International Publication No. WO2007 / 071043 [Fraser et al] No. and International Publication No. WO2007 / 071074 [Fraser et al] DBD radiation source).

[0052] In another embodiment, the elongated radiation emitting exterior and the el...

Abstract

There is disclosed a radiation source assembly comprising an elongate radiation emitting outer portion having non-circular cross-sectional shape and an elongate radiation source. A radiation source module and a fluid system incorporating the radiation source assembly are also disclosed. It has been discovered that the use of a non-circular shaped sleeve or outer lamp surface reduces the stress placed on these elements in a fluid treatment system in which the radiation source assemblies are disposed transverse (e.g., orthogonal) to the direction of fluid flow through the fluid treatment zone of the system.

Description

[0001] Cross-reference of related applications [0002] This application claims priority to the provisional patent application serial number 61 / 006,035 filed on December 14, 2007 in accordance with U.S.C. Section 119(e), and the content of the prior application is incorporated herein by reference. Technical field [0003] In one aspect of the present invention, the present invention relates to a radiation source assembly, and more specifically to an ultraviolet radiation source assembly. In another of its aspects, the present invention relates to a fluid treatment system, and more specifically, to an ultraviolet radiation water treatment system. Background technique [0004] Fluid handling systems are well known in the art. In more detail, ultraviolet (UV) radiation source fluid treatment systems are well known in the art. [0005] Earlier, the treatment system included a fully enclosed chamber design that contained more than one radiation (preferably UV) lamp. There are certain pr...
