Embodiment 1
[0094] Example 1: Study parameters
[0095] The study compared three major pre-colonoscopy colon cleansing regimens. The goals of these studies include evaluating the efficacy, patient tolerability, and patient safety of these therapies. In total, 351 patients were enrolled into groups 1A, 2, and 3. Since each group had reached n=95, 32 of the 351 patients were randomized rather than assigned (specifically, 9 from group 1A, 13 from group 2, and 10 from group 3) . An additional fifteen patients (n=5 in each of Groups 1A, 2, and 3) completed their decontamination preconditioning, but incomplete colonoscopies prevented completion of OBPS for reasons other than preconditioning. Data on patient safety and patient tolerability for these 15 were also included in the analysis. Colon decontamination data were collected from 100 patients from group 1A, 104 patients from group 2, and 96 patients from group 3. There were no major differences between the groups in basic characterist...
Embodiment 2
[0098] Example 2: Colon decontamination prior to colonoscopy
[0099] All patients were instructed to ingest clear fluids only prior to colonoscopy. Encourage them to drink four liters of Gatorade the night before their colonoscopy or similar fluids. Patients were randomly assigned to Group 1A, Group 2, or Group 3. Another smaller study of patients in group 1B (n=12) was performed separately.
[0100] Provide appropriate instruction sheets to patients in Group 1A (see Figure 4A ) and suitable products. Briefly, patients in Group 1A were instructed to use (1) bisacetoxyphenylmethylpyridine 10 mg orally at 5 pm three days before the colonoscopy, (2) 10 mg orally at 5 pm two days before the colonoscopy Diacetoxyphenylpicoline, (3) 1 sachet of PICO-SALAX taken orally at 5 p.m. the day before colonoscopy and (4) a second sachet of PICO-SALAX taken orally at 10:00 pm the day before the colonoscopy
[0101] Provide appropriate instruction sheets to patients in Group 1B ...
Embodiment 3
[0104] Example 3: Patient Acceptance / Tolerance
[0105] On the morning of and prior to colonoscopy, patients complete a rating scale questionnaire (see Figure 5 Examples in ). By completing questionnaires, patients reported their evaluation of any of the colon cleansing methods. Feedback parameters include its tolerance, perception, and whether it suffers from nausea, vomiting, chest pain, dizziness, numbness / agitation, and distension. Patients also compared their experience with those they had previously experienced with any other colon cleansing method. The result is as figure 2 A-B, and 3A-B are shown.
