Abstract

The invention discloses a system and method for determining the position and the coverage radium of APs (access points) of a WIFI (wireless fidelity) network. The system comprises WIFI network nodes and an upper layer system server 102, wherein the WIFI network nodes are used for receiving AP identifications from the APs and network identifications corresponding to the WIFI network to which the APs belong, and determining AP identifications corresponding to APs which do not belong to the WIFI network in the received AP identifications; the WIFI network nodes send position measurement requests to the determined APs corresponding to the AP identifications, and receive position information returned by the corresponding APs; the WIFI network nodes send the determined AP identifications, the network identifications corresponding to the WIFI network to which the APs belong and the position information returned by the corresponding APs to the upper layer system server 102; and the upper layer system server 102 is used for correspondingly recording the received AP identifications, the network identifications of the belonged WIFI network and the position information. According to the invention, the determination of the positions of the APs which do not belong to the WIFI network as well as the efficiency and the comprehensiveness of the coverage radium is improved.
