[0053] exist figure 1 A road toll collection system 1 is shown in , which includes a plurality of geographically distributed radio beacons 2 (only one is shown representatively), which communicate with the road toll collection system 1 (not shown) via a data connection 3 Out) connected to the terminus. The radio beacons 2 are each arranged on a road 4 which may include a plurality of roadways or roadways 5 , 6 .

[0054] The radio beacon 2 consists, for example, of a local computer 7 , a receiver (transceiver) 8 and a camera 9 which, in order to penalize non-payment of tolls, can—controlled by the computer 7—take pictures of the road 4 and its driving lanes 5, 6 picture of.

[0055] The receiver (transceiver) 8 is used to carry out radio communication 10 with vehicle devices or OBUs (onboard units, on-board units) 11 carried by vehicles 12 passing the radio beacon 2 on the driving lane 5 , 6 . The radio communication 10 is generally a bidirectional packet connection. In th...

Abstract

The invention relates to a method for determining the distance (a) between a radio beacon (2) and a vehicle device (11) passing in front of said radio beacon, in a road toll system (1). A signal (10) of a frequency having a known temporal profile is emitted. Said method consists of the following steps: the signal is captured in the other component (2, 11) when passing and the temporal profile of the frequency is recorded in relation to the known temporal profile; a modification in the recorded frequency profile (13; 14) exceeding a first threshold value is detected; two distant wave zones in the frequency profile, lying temporally in front of and behind the detected modification, which displays a frequency modification below a second threshold value, are searched for; the recorded frequency profile is scaled in such a manner that the distance wave zones take the predetermined values; and said distance (a) from the scaled frequency path is determined. The invention also relates to radio beacons (2), installations and vehicle devices (11) for implementing the method.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a method for ascertaining the distance between a radio beacon and a vehicle device passing the radio beacon in a road toll system, wherein at least one of the two components of the radio beacon and the vehicle device A signal is transmitted, the signal having a known time profile of the frequency of the signal. The invention also relates to radio beacons and vehicle equipment for implementing such a method. Background technique [0002] In the road toll system based on radio beacons, for example, according to DSRC (dedicated short range communication) or WAVE (wireless access in a vehicle environment) standards, vehicle instruments (onboard units, OBUs) carried by vehicles communicate with geographically distributed Radio beacon communication, as long as the vehicle instrument passes the radio beacon. Such radio communication is often used to locate vehicles within the radio coverage of radio beacons, to charge for the use of...
