Problems solved by technology

Furthermore, reducing the size of the rolls results in an increase in the surface pressure exerted by the rolls on the logs, which is not expected
These factors hinder the achievement of smaller stub outer diameters by reducing the roll

In figure 1 In the case, the clamp (not shown) at the end of the mandrel of the rotary veneer cutter has been retracted, and the log 4 is supported by the disc 1', 2', 3' on the support rollers 1, 2 and counter Between the rollers 3. The cutter 6 of the rotary cutter unscrews the veneer 5 from the log 4 . To simplify the drawing, the veneer 5 is shown as a stub, when in fact it is separated from the log 4 as a continuous board.

Abstract

A veneer lathe for peeling veneer from a log (4) includes a first and a second support roll (1, 2) and a counter roll (3), all the rolls (1, 2, 3) being parallel with the rotation axis of the log and having a length of substantially at least the length of the log. Each roll includes a shaft (1'', 2'', 3''), with discs (1', 2', 3') placed thereon having a width equaling to not more than the distance of the discs from each other in the longitudinal direction of the log. The discs have an outer diameter greater than that of their respective shaft and are concentric therewith. The discs (2', 3') of the second support roll and counter roll do not coincide in the longitudinal direction with the discs (1') of the first support roll for enabling overlapping of the discs (2', 3') of the second support roll and the counter roll with the discs (1') of the first support roll in the radial direction of the discs (2', 3').

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to unscrewing veneers from logs. More specifically, the object of the invention is to enhance the peeling of veneers by using a device with which a larger portion of the log is utilized, ie a much smaller log diameter is obtained at the end of the peeling. Background technique [0002] Typically, a rotary veneer cutter is used to peel veneer from a log in such a way that the log is rotatably supported from its ends between mandrels of the rotary cutter. The rotary cutter carries knives that extend along the length of the log and are fed towards the axis of rotation of the log as the log is rotated. [0003] When peeled in a rotary cutter, the log is subjected to enormous cutting forces, so the log is supported by one or more support rollers in contact with the log periphery. As opposed to the knives, rotary veneer cutters are also often fitted with counter rolls that are in contact with the log perimeter and the just-sep...
