Abstract

A turbocharger (119) for an internal combustion engine (100) includes a center housing (202), a shaft (125) rotatably supported in the center housing (202), and a turbine wheel (212) connected at one end of the shaft (125). A turbine housing (215) is connected to the center housing (202) and disposed around the turbine wheel (212). A bore (234) formed in the turbine housing (215) extends from a gas outlet (128) end of the turbine housing (215) to an annular stop surface (308) of the turbine housing (215) disposed adjacent the turbine wheel (212). A nozzle ring (238) disposed in the bore (234) surrounds a portion of the turbine wheel (212). An outlet cone (316) is disposed at least partially in the bore (234) and surrounds a remaining portion of the turbine wheel (212). The outlet cone (316) is connected to the gas outlet (128) end of the turbine housing (215).
