The method comprises the steps of sending a search request based on a first search engine by means of search keywords on the browser side; detecting an error message code related to the searching request based on the first search engine; sending an error handling request to a server corresponding to the browser according to the error message code fed back; receiving an error handling page fed back by the server corresponding to the browser according to the error handling request; acquiring search feature information in the search request of the first search engine from the error handling page, wherein the search feature information comprises the search keywords; sending a search request based on a second search engine in the error handling page according to the search feature information. According to the method and device for conducting searching in the browser, operation such as opening the search engine again and inputting the keywords again is avoided for the user, operation is more convenient, and the responding frequency of the browser and the search engine is reduced.
