Abstract

The present invention discloses a lamp with integrated light and heat guides and with solid state light sources such as LEDs. The light guide includes a material having a first surface and a second surface opposite the first surface and forming an interior volume. A light guide is coupled to the LEDs for receiving and distributing light from the LEDs through the first surface, and the light is transmitted through the light guide until the light is extracted from either the first surface or the second surface. The light guide may include alignment features, such as fiducials that mate with the base. A heat guide is contained within the inner volume and integrated with the light guide for providing heat conduction from the LEDs to cool the lamp. The heat guide may be perforated to provide internal cross-flow of air for cooling.
