Embodiment Construction

[0042] Specific terms will be used in this patent application, and its construction should not be construed as being limited by the specific term chosen, but rather referring to the general concept behind the specific term.

[0043] figure 1 A schematic cross-sectional view of a multilayer structure 10 according to the invention is shown. The main functional elements of the multilayer structure 10 are the heat transfer-emitter unit 2 and the spectral shaper 3 .

[0044] The heat transfer-emitter unit 2 comprises a chamber housing 2.1 made of a high temperature resistant material, preferably a ceramic material. Such as Figure 2 to Figure 3B Exemplarily shown, a chamber housing 2.1 having at least one inner surface and one outer surface defines a flow-through heat transfer chamber 2.2.

[0045] same as figure 1 As shown, another main functional element of the multilayer structure, the spectral shaper 3 is arranged such that the input surface is adjacent to and thermally con...

Abstract

A multilayer structure (10) for thermophotovoltaic devices, comprising a heat transfer-emitter unit (2) and a spectral shaper (3). The heat transfer-emitter unit (2) comprising a chamber enclosure (2.1) made of a high temperature resistant material, defining a flow-through heat transfer chamber (2.2); an electro-magnetic radiation emitter (2.3) configured for emitting predominantly near-infrared radiation when exposed to high temperatures. The spectral shaper (3) is arranged adjacent to and thermally connected with said electro-magnetic radiation emitter (2.3), wherein the spectral shaper (3) is configured as a band pass filter for an optimal spectral band of the radiation and as a reflector for further, non-optimal spectral band(s) of the radiation, so that said second, non-optimal spectral band radiation is recycled as radiation redirected towards the electro-magnetic radiation emitter (2.3).

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a multilayer structure for a thermophotovoltaic device and a thermophotovoltaic device comprising such a multilayer structure. Background technique [0002] With the high demand for electricity and even for clean CO 2 With higher demand for neutral energy sources, the efficiency of energy harvesting plays an increasingly important role. As many industrialized countries seek to transition away from nuclear power production, the need for alternative energy sources is greater than ever. However, few, if any, truly viable alternative energy sources are known so far. Many "classic" renewable energy sources such as wind turbines or solar plants have significant disadvantages that hinder their deployment. [0003] Even if these disadvantages of "classical" renewable energy sources such as wind turbines or solar farms are addressed, there remains the big problem that the locations where these renewable energy sources are ava...
