Abstract

The invention discloses a method and a system for implementing switching of a master server and a standby server. The method comprises the following steps that a gateway broadcasts a first ARP (Address Resolution Protocol) request when the standby server monitors that the master server cannot respond to a second ARP request; the standby server which has the same IP (Internet Protocol) address as the malfunctioning master server receives the first ARP request, an MAC (Media Access Control) address of the standby server is transmitted to the gateway through a standby exchange and a host exchange. According to the method and the system, the fault condition of the master server is monitored by the standby exchange, so that when the master server has a fault and cannot respond to the second ARP request, the standby server corresponding to the master server is started to respond the first ARP request so as to complete mutual switching of the master server and the standby server. On the one hand, compatibility of service application of the present network is guaranteed; on the other hand, switching of the master server and the standby server is simply implemented, and a cluster function of the server is not needed. Therefore, the investment and the operation of the existing network equipment are effectively protected, and safer and faster data storage assurance is brought to enterprises.
