[0099] Example 2 - Addition of Zinc Salt Provides Color Stability

[0100]

[0101] Formulations 1-6 were color stable after 1 week of incubation at 50°C - they did not turn green and remained light orange (SeS 2 Slight orange at 0.5 and 0.3% by weight)

[0102] Examples 1 and 2 show that SeS 2 There are color stability issues which can be solved by including zinc salts such as zinc pyrithione (ZPT) in the formulation.

Abstract

The invention relates to a hair treatment composition comprising:- a) from 0.1 to 2 wt.% of selenium disulfide; b) from 0.1 to 2 wt.% of zinc pyrithione; and, c) from 0.01 to 10 wt.% of a cationic guar hydroxypropyltrimonium chloride polymer; and to the use of the composition for the treatment of dandruff.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to anti-dandruff shampoo compositions having improved color stability. Background of the invention [0002] Dandruff is a problem that commonly affects many people. This condition manifests as the shedding of clumps of dead skin cells from the scalp. These are white and provide an aesthetically pleasing appearance. The cause of dandruff is a certain type of Malassezia yeast. To combat these, anti-dandruff products have included certain anti-dandruff actives. One such anti-dandruff active is selenium disulfide. [0003] A problem with using selenium disulfide hair treatment compositions is that they are not color stable. The color of the formulation changed over time to an unsightly dark green, which was not desired by the consumer. [0004] US 4,854,333 discloses that one way to overcome the problem of discoloration of selenium sulfide is to include a peroxygen oxidizing agent such as hydrogen peroxide or sodium perc...
