Embodiment approach

[0175] 1. A method for bonding a metal skin to a composite skin comprising a first composite laminate and a second composite laminate each comprising a graphite-containing corresponding fibers; the method comprising:

[0176] bonding the first composite laminate to a first end of a stack comprising metal sheets, and bonding the second composite laminate to a second end of the stack;

[0177] forming the stack into a shape;

[0178] attaching the first composite laminate to the top side of the frame of the structure; and

[0179] The second composite laminate is attached to the underside of the frame of the structure.

[0180] 2. The method of clause 1, further comprising bonding each metal sheet to an adjacent metal sheet by a bonding layer.

[0181] 3. The method according to item 1, wherein combining further comprises:

[0182] interleaving each board in the stack with plies of at least one of:

[0183] said first composite laminate and said second composite laminate in...

Abstract

The disclosure discloses a composite structure having composite-to-metal joints and a method for making the same. The composite structure comprises stacked laminated fiber reinforced resin layers and metal sheets. Edges of the resin layers and metal sheets are interleaved to form the composite-to-metal joints.

Description
