Embodiment Construction

[0034] Exemplary embodiments of the disclosed surgical systems and associated methods of use are discussed in relation to medical devices for treating musculoskeletal disorders, and more particularly, surgical systems for delivering implants to surgical sites Discussed with methods for treating the spine using an oblique surgical approach that may include an oblique surgical approach. In one embodiment, the systems and methods disclosed herein are used for spinal articulation and fusion, for example, in the cervical, thoracic, lumbar, and / or sacral regions of the spine.

[0035] In one embodiment, the surgical system is used in a method comprising utilizing the anterolateral surgical channel between the lateral psoas muscle and the anterior vasculature (e.g., the vena cava and aorta) in the L1 vertebral body and the L5 vertebral body. Oblique interbody fusion (OLIF) surgery performed in the lower lumbar region between. In one embodiment, the patient is placed in a lateral pos...

Abstract

A spinal implant comprises an implant body extending between an anterior surface and a posterior surface and includes a first vertebral engaging surface and a second vertebral engaging surface. The implant body includes an inner surface that defines at least one cavity that is oriented to implant a fastener oblique relative to a lateral axis of a subject body and adjacent an intervertebral space of the subject body. The implant body includes an oblique surface that defines at least one opening disposed in substantial alignment with the at least one cavity. Systems and methods are disclosed.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates generally to medical devices for treating musculoskeletal disorders, and more particularly to spinal implant systems and methods for treating the spine employing oblique access. Background technique [0002] Spinal disorders and diseases such as scoliosis and other curvature abnormalities, kyphosis, degenerative disc disease, herniated discs, osteoporosis, spondylolisthesis, stenosis, tumors and fractures can result from injuries and aging including trauma, disease and degenerative disease factors. Disorders of the spine often result in symptoms including deformation, pain, nerve damage and partial or complete loss of mobility. [0003] Nonsurgical treatments such as medications, rehabilitation, and exercise may be effective but may not relieve symptoms associated with these disorders. Surgical treatments for these spinal disorders include fusion, immobilization, orthosis, discectomy, laminectomy, subtotal corpectomy, a...
