A torsional vibration damper comprises an outer housing (11), an inner part (12) concentric relative to the outer housing (11), a plurality of chambers (13) formed between the outer housing (11) and the inner part (12) and being filled with a damping medium, a plurality of leaf spring assemblies (17) joining the outer housing (11) and the inner part (12) in a torsionally flexible manner, wherein each of the leaf spring assemblies (17) is arranged in one of said chambers (13) and separates the corresponding chamber (13) into sub-chambers (13.1, 13.2), a plurality piston chambers (31) formed separately in the outer housing (11), wherein each piston chamber (31) is connected with the sub-chambers (13.1, 13.2) of one of the chambers (13), and a plurality of pistons (32) adjustably arranged in the piston chambers (31), respectively, for controlling the flow of damper medium between the sub-chambers (13.1, 13.2) of a chamber (13).
