Here the radar level gauge 2 is mounted on a tubular mounting structure 4 (commonly called a "nozzle") extending substantially vertically from the top of a tank 5 . Usually the nozzle 4 is an existing part on the tank and was not originally intended for a particular type of level gauge. The nozzle 4 may therefore have characteristics which are not ideal for this purpose. The radar level gauge can of course also be installed on tanks without any nozzles.
