According to the method of the invention, with a product structure tree (PST) or a bill of material (BOM) in a PLM (product life-cycle management) database adopted as a data source, based on the utilization of information comparison of the physical space, logic space and attribute space of product data, analysis and extraction of the product families can be realized. The method is characterized in that: a product main feature vector comparison-based algorithm is utilized; clustering analysis is performed on the output results of the algorithm; and a threshold value is set for a clustering result; and a final product family classification scheme can be obtained. The algorithm of the invention has the advantages of convenience in calculation, high operability and wide application range, and can classify the product families more accurately and rapidly. With the technical schemes of the invention adopted, a more scientific method can be put forward based on a DPIPP.
