Problems solved by technology

This "parallax" can lead to inaccurate measurements and is at least partly responsible for geographic misalignment of the working surface relative to the lesion
Use of such a ruler may also result in poor measurements when the vessel in question is particularly tortuous

Embodiment Construction

[0025] The description provided below and with respect to the figures applies to all embodiments unless otherwise stated, and features common to each embodiment are similarly shown and numbered.

[0026] The present disclosure provides a catheter 10 having a distal portion 11 with a balloon 12 mounted on the catheter 14 . refer to figure 1 , 2 and 3, the balloon 12 has a middle portion 16 , or “barrel” with a working surface W, and end portions 18 , 20 . In one embodiment, the ends 18, 20 reduce or taper in diameter to join the intermediate portion 16 to the conduit 14 (and thus the portions 18, 20 are generally referred to as cones or cones). The balloon ends of balloon 12 at ends 18, 20 (proximal end 15a and distal end 15b) are sealed to catheter 14 to allow passage through one or Balloon 12 is inflated by a plurality of inflation lumens 17 .

[0027] Catheter 14 also includes an elongated hollow shaft 24 for forming a guidewire lumen 23 through which a guidewire 26 can...

Abstract

An apparatus for treating a treatment area in the vasculature using a catheter, such as one designed to deliver a payload (such as a therapeutic agent (e.g., a drug, such as paclitaxel, rapamycin, heparin and the like), a stent, a stent graft, or a combination thereof) or a working element (such as a cutter, focused force wire, or the like) to a specified location within the vasculature. The catheter may include at least one first radiopaque marking. A guidewire (26) for guiding the catheter to the treatment area includes an anchor (26a) for selectively anchoring the guidewire to the vasculature, and at least one second radiopaque marking (26b) for corresponding to the at least one first radiopaque marking of the catheter when positioned at the treatment area.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims the benefit of US Provisional Patent Application No. 61 / 940675, the disclosure of which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety. technical field [0003] The present disclosure relates generally to interventional medical devices and procedures, such as angioplasty using balloon catheters, and more particularly to anchoring guidewires with markers for facilitating precise positioning of treatments in a treatment zone. Background technique [0004] Catheters containing balloons are often used to address or treat flow restrictions or perhaps even complete blockages in body ducts (eg, arteries or veins). In many clinical situations, these restrictions are caused by hard objects (eg, calcified plaques) and may sometimes involve the use of high pressure to compact such obstructions. Commercially available balloons use sophisticated technology to achieve high pressure requirements without ...
