The method includes the steps of: obtaining a risk variable; computing the status transition probability of the risk variable; computing the fault impact index of the risk variable; computing the time impact index of the risk variable; computing the risk index of the risk variable according to the status transition probability, the fault impact index and the time impact index; judging whether the risk index exceeds a risk alarming threshold, wherein the risk alarming threshold is the maximum risk value which the industrial system is capable of bearing; and if yes, sending an alarming signal. The method and system provided by the invention realizes real-time assessment and monitoring of a process risk status and is capable of effectively avoiding the situation that an operator can not handle process faults effectively and timely which is caused by alarm overflow, through establishing the risk variable and considering the three aspects of status transition probability, fault impact index and time impact index of the risk variable.
