Problems solved by technology

This can lead to crankshaft torsional vibrations that can be falsely detected by the crankshaft acceleration sensor as a misfire event
Therefore, if engine cylinders are deactivated in response to an indication of misfire, it can affect overall engine performance
Also, OBD can be affected by such incorrect misfire indications

Abstract

The present invention relates to methods and systems for cylinder misfire detection. Methods and systems are provided for detecting cylinder misfire in a vehicle engine via a plurality of sensors based on a dual mass flywheel (DMF) operating frequency. In response to detection of a misfire event, the misfiring cylinder(s) may be deactivated, and upon confirmation that the DMF is operating outside the resonant frequency range, the deactivated cylinder(s) may be sequentially reactivated.

Description

Technical field [0001] The present invention generally relates to methods and systems for detecting cylinders in a vehicle engine and control engine operations accordingly. Background technique [0002] Individual engine cylinders experience the fire event, where the combustion event is not expected. For an engine having a plurality of cylinder groups, there may be a case where all cylinders in the given cylinder group are fired, resulting in a firing of the cylinder group. The engine control system can include a fire detection module for identifying such a fire event. As an example, engine fire can be identified based on fluctuations in the crankshaft torsion vibration detected by the crankshaft acceleration sensor. [0003] However, inventors herein have recognized potential problems depending on such detection methods of crankshaft acceleration sensors. By detecting fireworks only based on the crankshaft acceleration sensor response, the error detection will occur. For example...
